Last updated October 17, 2026

Short version: your camera, your video and your settings stay on your Mac. Callstage has no accounts, no analytics and no advertising, and we don't collect personal data.

Your camera and video

Callstage reads your camera to build the picture you see in its preview, and hands that picture to apps you choose through the Callstage Camera. All of this happens on your Mac. Callstage never uploads, records or stores your video anywhere else.

Your content and settings

Your layers, brand kit, images and video clips are saved on your Mac, in Callstage's own folder. They are not sent to us or anyone else.

What Callstage connects to

Location text layers

A Location text layer shows where you are, such as "Portland, OR". Callstage asks for your location only when you add one; macOS shows a permission prompt first, and you can turn it off in System Settings. Callstage uses your location only to write that text. It isn't stored and it is never sent to us. To turn coordinates into a place name, Callstage uses Apple's geocoder, so the coordinates go to Apple under Apple's privacy policy.

The optional location command

The separate location command (installed with Homebrew) prints where your Mac is so you can show it in a text layer. It asks macOS for your location; macOS shows a permission prompt first, and you can turn it off in System Settings. If location isn't available, it asks an IP-geolocation service (ipwho.is, ipinfo.io or ip-api.com) for an approximate city. It uses Apple's geocoder to turn coordinates into a place name. It keeps nothing and sends nothing to us.
